Information below is credited to Noah, and used with his permission.

Body Armor and Ballistics

Body Armor is meant to absorb shock as an outer layer detached from the body, so this means it takes the brunt of the blow and then the projectile makes contact with the body, with reduced force and (hopefully) a lack of penetration. This does not absolve the user from damage, the projectile still deals kinetic force trauma (Even if it's reduced). Body armor is generally meant to stop 1 bullet, or 2-3 from smaller calibers.

Bulletproof/resistant Vests:

Type 1 - .22 Long Rifle & .380 ACP.

Type 2A - 9x19mm, .40 S&W, .45 ACP and lower.

Type 2 - 9mm Parabellum, .357 magnum and lower.

Type 3A - .357 SIG, .44 Magnum, 10mm Auto and lower.

Type 3 - .45-70, common rifle calibers, and lower.

Type 4 - High caliber rifles & below.

Muzzle Energy:

Muzzle Energy is the kinetic energy of a bullet as it is expelled from the muzzle of a firearm, it is often used as a rough indication of the destructive potential of a particular bullet or firearm, in this case, we'll use the unit of joules.

22. Long Rifle - 159 joules.
9mm - 519 joules.
.380 ACP - 270 joules.
.38 special - 420 joules.
.45 colt - 500 joules.
.45 ACP - 540 joules.
.40 S&W - 576 joules.
.357 SIG - 644 joules.
.357 Magnum - 750 joules.
10mm auto - 880 joules.
.41 Mag - 1,230 joules.
.44 Mag - 1,400 joules.
.50 AE - 2000 joules.
.454 Casull - 2,600 joules.
.460 SW - 3,300 joules.
.500 SW - 3,500 joules.
5.56x45mm - 1,796 joules.
7.62x39mm - 2,070 joules.
7.62x51mm - 3,799 joules.
.308 Winchester - 3,200 - 3,600 joules.
.45-70 Gov't - 3,800 joules.
12 Gauge - 4,200 joules.
20 Gauge - 2,500 joules.
.338 Lapua Magnum - 6,634 joules.
.50 BMG - 15,037 joules.
14.5x114mm - 32,000 joules.

Fallout Armor Protection Reviews:

Leather Armor: Leather armor barely provides any ballistic protection against firearms, however it works very well against cuts and good quality leather can prevent a stab, leather even provides a reasonable resistance to lasers due to its low level of flammability. The kinetic force of blunt weapons may be decreased depending on the thickness of the armor.

Metal Armor/Steel Plate: Provides exceptional protection against cuts and stabs, no weapon is cutting or stabbing through it unless it's bad quality. However, steel plate is rigid and provides very little protection against blunt weaponry and ballistic weaponry.

Combat Armor: Combat Armor is classified as having Type 3 protection and can protect against low-medium caliber bullets, it also has a pretty good resistance against cuts and stabs, try shanking a toilet.

Power Armor: Power Armor has the same resistance as plate armor but it's a bit more assured, T-45 can handle up to 2000 joules, T-51 can handle up to 2500, both the X-01 and T-60 sets can take roughly 2800, and the X-02 can take about 2400. Hits to the head with blunt weapons are very effective.

Power Armor: The Dents and the Cracks.

T-45 Power Armor:

T-45 Power Armor was originally developed and manufactured by the U.S Army with the help of Med Tek, it was the first version of power armor ever to be deployed in battle. This version is not as mobile as it's counterparts due to it's less advanced servo designs. It uses riveted steel plates rather than plastic composite materials that suits like the T-51 sets use, and several electronic and mechanical subsystems are exposed. A specialized body suit is required to be worn alongside the frame in order to connect the wearer's movements to the servos and to deal with overheating. The first versions were powered by small energy cells but were soon developed to use the standard issue Fusion Cores. It can handle roughly 2000 joules of impact.

T-51 Power Armor:

Body Armor, and Weaponry. Latest?cb=20160205235232

T-51 Power Armor was developed in the West Tek Research Facility at the end of the Anchorage Reclamation in January 2077. The outer shell of the power armor is made of a poly-laminate composite, lightweight and capable of absorbing 2500 joules of impact. A 10 micron-thick silver ablative coating allows the power armor to reflect lasers and other radiation emissions without causing damage to the composite surface. The power armor used to utilize a TX-28 Microfusion Pack to power it's systems, but the burden of power was switched to Fusion Cores.

Advanced Power Armor/X-01:

The power armor was created by the Enclave's skilled engineers and scientists after the War. It is composed of lightweight metal alloys which are reinforced with ceramic castings at high stress points. The servos in the armor are generally well-made and it has an auto-gyro system allowing for the frame to be kept upright, even in unconsciousness. This set of power armor can withstand up to 2800 joules of impact.

Advanced Power Armor MKII:

Body Armor, and Weaponry. Q8vbzKg

The Advanced Power Armor MKII or X-02 power armor is similar to it's earlier counterpart but is entirely composed of lightweight ceramic composites rather than the usual combination of metal and ceramic plates. Earlier versions had back-mounted power packs similar to the ones found on T-51b suits, however, they were replaced with fusion cores. This set of power armor can handle roughly 2400 joules of impact.

T-60 Power Armor:

Body Armor, and Weaponry. Latest?cb=20160205234441

The T-60 power armor was developed in early 2077 after the Anchorage Reclamation, it was designed to replace the T-51b power armor as the latest in technology of that field. It incorporates design elements from the T-45 model, having a very similar aesthetic to the previous design. It is very bulky compared to the T-45 set and features composite, double layered, short shoulder plates, along with a lack of exposed machinery and improved servo design. Only a mediocre number of these frames were deployed to domestic U.S army troops before the bombs fell, however, their legacy lives on in the East Coast Brotherhood of Steel. The Brotherhood's increase in power allowed them to scavenge old military bunkers and bases, and this scavenging lead to the discovery of the T-60, which they started to manufacture a few years after. It is slightly superior to the T-51b power armor and has many similarities to the X-01 power armor in terms of function, it can handle up to 2800 joules.

Fusion Cores & Power armor:

In Fallout 4, the fusion cores were introduced and the lore for power armor was changed, rather than the microfusion packs of the old games, the power source for power armor was a small tube-like item. In our lore, the fusion cores are present, however, they function a little bit differently from their game counterparts. Our fusion cores keep the power armor powered for as long as the old microfusion packs (10,000 years), however, they provide a more open weakness to the user. Shooting fusion cores ingame usually ends in a nuclear explosion, in our lore, the fusion cores do not explode, but simply let out a dangerous dose of radiation.

Pipboys:

Fallout 4 introduces a rather peculiar form of pipboy-one that does not biometrically lock, but manages biological systems. In our server, pipboys are biometrically locked and are unable to be taken off by anyone other than the user. There are ways to get past that fault, but I shall not share them here.
